We set about on the legendary Sky Pond hike, finally. After hearing so many good things about Skyyyy Poooonnnd from Arkansas Willy on our first hike we knew we had to do it, and now we finally were. On the hike we formed a group of 9. Matt from St. Louis, Scott and Katie from Boulder, Mark and Jenny from Madison, and Steve and Pam from Eau Claire joined us. We met at the Bear Lake trailhead at 8:30ish for departure. The day was a mix of sun and clouds early on with mid 60's temperatures. Our group of 9 made good time past Bear Lake, up to treeline, the Loch, Lake of Glass, then finally Skyyyy Poooonnnd. On the right you'll see a pose near the Loch during our trip up. Notice we are dry.
We stopped to eat lunch with Whorry Marmots eager to pick up anything we dropped from o
ur lunches. Fisherman were at the lake and we observed 3 to 4 fish being caught on flies. The fisherman told us he caught one almost every cast. Riiight.....
Sky pond on the right, with perhaps the best dressed hiker, ever, posing. The picture does nothing to show the beauty of the area.
During our lunch we encountered first some light drizzle, which was tolerable. Upon starting our hike down though we encountered a much heavier shower with some rumbles of thunder. It made the hike down somewhat treacherous on wet boulders. We made it down though, albeit slowly and safely.
On the left you'll see a picture of some of us near a water fall. Notice we are wet and dressed for cooler weather, a joy of being in the mountains during the Colorado monsoon season. It was a good, fun hike filled with much chatter and comaraderie amongst hikers.

On the way back it rained even harder so we stopped at the Estes Park brewery to sample some beers. We got some pizza back at Estes Lodge and discussed our day.
Day totals: 11 miles, 1,500 ft elevation gain, 6 hours total on the trail.
