After a LONG weekend of moving our truckload of stuff in, we took Monday, July 9th to make our way into Rocky Mountain National Park for a hike. Deciding not to tackle a hike with too much elevation gain we proceeded to hike from the Bear Lake trailhead. We did a 9 mile loop traversing ponderosa pine forests, lakes, and just a bit of high mountain tundra.
For our information it gained 800' and took 3 and 1/2 hours to do the loop. The loop would be rated "not very" aggressive on the aggressiveness scale.
The first picture we have is of Lake Haiyaha which we had to climb a boulder field to get to.
Upon recommendation from an old timer from Arkansas who had hiked the park for "25 years" a
nd done Long's Peak "10 times" we headed to Mills Lake. And we took the opportunity to have lunch there while watching rainbow trout search for handouts from hikers in the crystal clear water.
